Alex's Ode to the Noble Binturong

Class Mammalia (mammals), Order Viverridae (Civets), Genus Arctictis, Species A. binturong
If leopards make you salivate, And Bengal Tigers titillate, The merest sniff of monkeys simply causes you to sing, If you're driven to distraction, By that furry-coated action, And the wallabies and porcupines are just your kind of thing,
As you're clicking with your camera, as you're peering through the glass, That it's better than a panther and it kicks the zebra's arse, The toucan gets a mention for his brightly coloured bill But our shaggy-coated friend is always looking dressed to kill. The tortoise tries to compensate by armouring his shell But his calibre of tail will never really ring my bell. The lynxes may be slinky, and you'll love the tapir's nose, But the Binturong's a winner and the others don't come close. Except for maybe the badger, which is in a league of its own and widely recognised as King of the Woods. -- Guy Brandon |
